The Internet lowered the cost and reduced the friction for communication and collaboration through open standards and interoperability. This enabledan explosion of innovation and creativity ranging from Google to eBay to Wikipedia to citizen media. The next layer of substantial friction holding back massive creative collaboration and creativity is the legal layer. Through Creative Commons we hope lower the legal friction and increase interoperability to enable another explosion of creativity by allowing artists, creators, educators, journalists and scientists to share easily and legally using the open network that the Internet has provided us.
